Acne & Acne Scaring

Acne is a skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. The classical pathophysiology of acne is multifactorial:

  • Hormonally induced, excessive production of sebum
  • Abnormal keratinisation of the lining of the pilosebaceous unit
  • An overgrowth of bacteria (P. acnes)
  • Rupture of the follicle and consequent inflammation.

Up to 50 million Americans struggle with acne, making it the most common skin disorder in the United States.

Although acne typically clears spontaneously after the troublesome teenage years, for the unfortunate few, acne can be severe, and sometimes persist well into adulthood, having both a profound social and psychological impact.

When it strikes during the teen years, it can lead to feelings of self-consciousness, embarrassment and depression. Many severe acne sufferers struggle with low self-confidence, feelings of alienation and social withdrawal as a result.
And it's not only teens who are affected; one in five adults also suffers from acne, and for them the psychological toll is often no less severe.

Dr Joseph Georghy successfully treats acne using a range of latest techniques including IPL (Intensive Pulsed Light), IPH (Intensive Pulsed Heat), Photodynamic HelioTherm, LED, lasers, hyaluronic dermal fillers, PRP, MicroPen Elite, DermaPen, WISHPro, scar undercutting, etc. This combined treatment not only clears the acne but also kills the bacteria, nourishes the skin and avoids the need for patients to undergo lengthy courses of different antibiotics and Roaccutane.
